Teacher Omar Ma
Teacher Yongfei Ma was born into a Buddhist family and has held deep faith in the Buddha since childhood.
In 2016, motivated by compassion and a desire to reduce animal suffering, he and several friends opened a vegetarian restaurant to promote a non-harming lifestyle. That same year, he met his spiritual Master and formally took refuge in the Buddha, dedicating the majority of his time to learning and practicing the Dharma.
Under the influence of his Master, Teacher Ma has visited 16 countries, including UK, Australia, North European countries, etc to study different culture and religions. Teacher Ma became a member of the International Buddha Dharma Society for Cosmic Law in 2020 and joined Blessed Field Meditation Center (BFMC) in October 2022.
Over the past several years, he has cultivated diligently, studied earnestly, and deepened his spiritual practice. He has earned and taken the following certificates and courses : Certified Advanced Meditation; Therapist Certified Dharma Lecturer; Certified Vegetarian Chef; Certified Mindfulness Teacher; Buddhism Through Its Scripture; East Asian Religions & Ecology.
Teacher Ma has been a devoted practitioner of the Buddha Dharma since 2016, actively engaging in both the study and propagation of Buddhist teachings.
At the same time, he has been a dedicated advocate of the Buddhist Diet, integrating its principles into his community work, teachings, and daily life. His unique combination of spiritual training, meditation experience, culinary expertise, and commitment to health and wellness makes him highly qualified for the role of Buddha Dharma & Buddhist Diet Teacher at BFMC.
It is important to note that the Buddhist diet differs from general vegetarian diets. In addition to abstaining from meat, practitioners also avoid certain pungent vegetables— such as garlic, onions, green onions, and leeks—which, according to Buddhist sutras and traditional practice, are believed to stimulate negative emotions like anger, irritation, and lust. Maintaining a clean and disciplined diet is therefore considered essential for individuals engaged in rigorous cultivation and meditation.
Teacher Ma is also the author of Gratitude for a Drop of Water, in which he shares his experiences, insights, and reflections on Buddhist spiritual practice.
In addition, Teacher Ma has made Seven Great Vows as part of his lifelong spiritual commitment. These vows embody his dedication to the Dharma, to his Master, and to the mission of BFMC. They are presented below as part of his documented religious practice:
Seven Great Vows of Disciple Yongfei Ma:
I vow to follow my Master with unwavering devotion.
I vow to dedicate the remainder of my life to serving my Master.
I vow to devote my life to supporting and sustaining the Dharma center.
I vow to offer all my financial resources, material possessions, and personal efforts to the sacred path.
I vow to accompany my Master in spreading the Dharma and benefiting all sentient beings, practicing with complete selflessness.
I vow to give my utmost strength and wholehearted service at the Dharma center.
I vow to ultimately attain Buddhahood through the endless accumulation of merits and virtues.
These seven great vows were made with sincerity and devotion. I humbly pray for the blessings of my Master, the protection of all Buddhas, the guardianship of the Vajra Dharma Protectors, and the witness of Heaven and Earth. I will practice diligently each day, advance moment by moment, and fulfill these vows with pure selflessness.
